"A riveting apocalyptic mystery in the style of LOST." --Craig DiLouie, author of THE INFECTION "Takes a well thought concept and creatively expands on it to give the readers an excellent mix of The Twilight Zone, LOST H.P. Lovecraft..." --Fantasy Book Critic "A novel that should make Peter Clines a household name among not just horror fans, but fans of good stories, expertly told." --The Guilded Earlobe "If you enjoy strong characterization and a whirlwind of genre-bending mysteries, you'll probably love the hell out of 14." --SFFaudioAbout the AuthorPeter Clines grew up in the Stephen King fallout zone of Maine and--inspired by comic books, Star Wars, and Saturday morning cartoons--started writing at the age of eight with his first epic novel, LIZARD MEN FROM THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. He made his first writing sale at age seventeen to a local newspaper, and at the age of nineteen he completed his quadruple-PhD studies in English literature, archaeology, quantum physics, and interpretive dance. In 2008, while surfing Hawaii's Keauwaula Beach, he thought up a viable way to maintain cold fusion that would also solve world hunger, but forgot all about it when he ran into actress Yvonne Strahvorski back on the beach and she offered to buy him a drink. He was the inspiration for both the epic poem "Beowulf" and the motion picture -Raiders of the Lost Ark-, and is single-handedly responsible for repelling the Martian Invasion of 1938 that occurred in Grovers Mills, New Jersey. Eleven sonnets he wrote to impress a girl in high school were all later found and attributed to Shakespeare. He is the author of numerous short stories, EX-HEROES, EX-PATRIOTS, --14--, THE EERIE ADVENTURES OF THE LYCANTHROPE ROBINSON CRUSOE, and an as-yet-undiscovered Dead Sea Scroll. There is compelling evidence that he is, in fact, the Lindbergh baby. what is the best fantasy book series of all time 14

What Is The Best Fantasy Book Series Of All Time

The lack of originality of the concepts around which the narrative is built is the reason why I can only give four stars.A mysterious door that leads into an... okay, no spoilers. But it has been done so many times.Specifically, the cocept and the imagery surrounding the portal thing remind me of one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes combined with a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode featuring a hydrogen molecule. Then there is the landscape straight out of a Linkin Park video (In the End). But what isn't derivative? When I come across "original" material, it usually means I - alone amongst all those I know - have just not seen it before. But four stars for putting together almost cliche concepts in such a delightfully intriguing manner.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Damn good, wish it was a series of booksBy Jimmie RoehmI tore through this book in 2 days. The characters in it were some of the best I'd been able to relate too considering how much of a rut I am in and how unsure of my purpose in life right now is. It was nice to just sit down and be somewhere else with people who were discovering there purpose. Peter Clines writes too damn well it's scary considering how he can string you along sentence by sentence. However I will say it can get pretty goofy near the end but I was completely fine with that, the only issue I had was their were quite a few plot holes but this review will change to five stars if he makes a second book wrapping it all up and covering a lot of the plot holes that were introduced.I was pretty worried when I saw everyone talking about how this book was going to be "apocalyptic" but I found it more lovecraftian, and the best lovecraftian book I've read at that. Recommending this book to all my friends for sure.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Captivating from the First; Recommend to Those Who Like a Good (Sci-Fi? Horror? Just Weird?) Mystery StoryBy Morro SchreiberIt's a great mystery. Keeps you guessing until nearly the end, and very creepily believable. I recommend this book to my friends who like weird books. It's unusual in that everything is VERY strange, but at the same time, it's just REAL enough to be totally creepy. I actually listened to the audio version of this book, performed by Ray Porter, and I can't say enough good things about him.The characters in the book are believable, likable, and you do end up caring about them. "14" relies heavily on the mystery, so I am reluctant to say anything else, and I certainly won't summarize, because HELLO, this is not a 3rd grade Book Report (I REALLY wish people would leave the summaries to the publishers; there's no reason to retell the entire story in your review, especially after 400 OTHER reviewers have already done so). Okay, sorry, off my soap box now...One thing I did NOT like about the book was the repeated use of certain phrases, such as "took a pull from his beer". No one ever actually takes a SIP, a DRINK, or anything - they are always taking "PULLS" (or something like that...I may not have the exact word correct, but that's the idea). I think Mr. Clines could have been a little more creative with the way people drank (and there was a LOT of drinking), but eventually I just got over it. And for those worried about the graphic violence I mentioned in the check-boxes, it's true that there IS graphic violence, but it is not throughout the whole book. You can enjoy MOST of the book without encountering ANY graphic violence, and I will say no more for fear of spoiling.Again, I HIGHLY recommend the audio version of this book, available on Audible. Ray Porter is fantastic.
