In fact he seems unsavorily oblivious to his role in driving loved ones to deathBy pablolieKind of a pointless follow up to the "Vicious Circle" book, which provided a nonsensical, frustrating extension to said circle...The characters here have become shallow. None of them dares to ever say "oh come on, enough of this nonsensical crap". Cross seems pathetically unaware of the fact that, the more he obsesses in this endeavor, the more people close to him meet a blood soaked grave. In fact he seems unsavorily oblivious to his role in driving loved ones to death.Unlike others, I the violence and sex don't turn me off. In fact they seem the only thing that keeps this book going. But considering the premise is they are all hardened professionals, their thinking patterns and actions don't hold up to it. The final attack is ludicrously chancy, risky and insultingly stupid.I sure hope the bad characters that ended up in jail don't come out for revenge in "Predator's Circle (Hector Cross Vol 4)" . This thing has run its course.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Wilbur Smith used to Write Good Novels, but....By CustomerOver the last thirty years I've read every Wilbur Smith novel I could get. This is the only one I regret buying. The characters are very thin, the dialogue is often stilted and contrived, and I lost interest early. I pushed through the first quarter of the novel, but no more.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Big disappointmentBy C. David BridgesI do not believe that much of this novel was written by Wilbur Smith. It just isn't his style. There were long sections dealing with financial matters that sounded like a Harvard lecture. I felt they talked down to the reader. For this author, the sex was uncharacteristically graphic. I also found the two female characters unbelievable (Nastiya and her incredibly immature mid-twenties sister Zhenia). Their dialogue was childish and immature. The only believable character was the arch-villain, Congo. I have read all of Wilbur Smith's novels, and this was a big disappointment.
