Strong characters interesting storyBy kw tinkAfter reading Ms. Ritchie's debut novel, one can't help but be impressed by her grasp of forensic pathology and the medical world. It is obvious right away she must have spent a great deal of time researching to prepare for this novel.Her main character Catherine "Cat" Power is a fantastic new heroine in the vein of Kay Scarpetta Clarice Starling. FBI consultant Power is hot on the the trail of a serial killer dubbed "The Burning Man" in Los Angeles. She meets up with a general group of characters and begins her investigation. In the meantime, she is dealing with guilt over being away from her 6-year old son.Ms. Ritchie also gives us glimpses into the killers mind as he hunts and kills his next victims. This helps to give some insight into his desires and what drives him to torture and murder young women.I feel Ms. Ritchie has done a superior job assembling a believable cast of characters with a chilling story. At times it does seem to have more characters than necessary. Some are introduced yet their storyline goes nowhere. But her storyline is strong and her writing is vivid and crackles as it moves at brisk pace. There is a surprising twist at the end with the promise of more appearances by Ms. Powers and others as well.Ms. Ritchie should have a solid new career ahead of her!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. She writes beautifully, and kept me reading until the end. I usually only read at night, but this novel wouldn't let me rest until I was through--only to be pleasantly surprised to know that there will be more. I am an avid reader. I love thrillers.
