I first started reading him because he's books were cheap on Kindle. Now after reading eight of his novels I think his books are grossly underpriced. I put him up there with the historical fiction giants like Bernard Cornwall and Conn Iggulden. I might even like him better. This "Blood of Kings" trilogy is great work! It's full of surprises. Kevin's got an easy style of writing that makes he books burn through your fingers. Nothing is wasted either. He does great character development. Things eventually come full circle in these books. I have been utterly stunned at the some of the reversals I did not see coming. If you love reading about the British Middle Ages and want to true history fleshed out into very readable stories, Kevin Ashman is your man. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. To people who don't like books that start out slow and towards the end ...By Maritza D.When I bought this book I had been very excited to read it, because the first book "A Land Divided (The blood of kings book 1)" left me wanting to know more. I wanted to know what happened to the winners, the betrayers, the families that were over taken, the prisoners, etc..I do have to say this second book didn't have the same impact or stamina as the first though. I didn't agree with a lot of parts; there was the unexpected death of a favored character, an unhealthy relationship that never got to flourish, the decision making of a female who had started out so strong and then just went blah, etc.. I almost gave up and didn't even want to finish it, however, since I had paid for it I continued. The book got its 3 stars because I did end up getting into the fights and the ending. It took me about a month and a half to finsh it as I had stopped reading, but that was more based on my travels, activities, choices, and personal disagreements.Would I encourage you to read this book?-No: To people who don't like books that start out slow and towards the end get interesting.-Yes: To the people who don't mind the hassle of getting too much information, like war books, and/or are dying to know what happened to the different kings, winners of book 1, eunuch, families, etc..0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but I have read really great books - ieBy mark draperThe more that I read this author the less I care for the writing style. The story line is OK, but I have read really great books - ie: author Sharon Kay Penman, and this doesn't come close. Minor things like referring to the ground outside as the floor really bother me, and the same thing has been consistently found in all of the 3 books that I have read by this author. The dialog between characters is, in my opinion, not at all the way people would have spoken to one another in this time period. Frankly, if I had borrowed them from the library, I would have returned them without finishing, but since I purchased the series for my Kindle, and I don't waste money, I will read them. I enjoy reading and it passes the time. Wont buy from this author again.
