Great first book in a time travel series.By CustomerLike all decent time travel books, this gets a bit twisty at times. The plot is enjoyable and entertains while leading the story forward while keeping tension high at times.People aren't too perfect, and in generally are on the bit flawed side(as people are) while still keeping the right balance of humor.I would give this a strong 4.5 stars out of 5 if they allowed this a more granular rating system. The only problem with finding a first good book in a series that has just been published is remembering to check back repeatedly over time for the next in the series, which with a new author is hard to remember.I really wish the Kindle app allowed you to flag authors so you would be notified when a brand new book came out. I mean it would drive up sales and make customers happy. It makes no sense that hasn't happened yet.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Time Travel With a TwistBy Kindle CustomerI really liked this book, the first in the series "The Chronicles of St. Mary's." I'm a time travel addict and have been since I was in my teens, so I'm always interested to see how yet another author tackles the subject. I most enjoyed the humor in the book - the protagonist is a wise-acre and brings in some humor even in tense situations. The series premise is time-travelers who are actually historians - who go to the source so they can start getting it right. And they aren't above saving things to be "found" in the present time but which shouldn't change time itself (scrolls lost in the Alexandrian Library fire being just one example). Of course there are the obligatory bad time-travelers who want to stop the group from St. Mary's, and they tend to cause many of the problems the historians run into - not to mention a few St. Mary's people (there are historians and support crews that help them move from time to time) who decide to go to the "dark side."I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series (there are currently five I believe) and hope to start #2 before the end of the month.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Slow and episodic with entertaining bits along the way.By Mr ToadFrom all the great reviews, I had higher hopes, but beside the clever title and the fun concept it was a little tedious to get through. There are a large number of secondary characters that are easy to confuse- and there are points where I might have cared more when people died if I actually knew who they were. At some points characters made choices that made so little sense that I almost stopped reading the book, but I plodded through to the end. I like this sort of story typically- it just felt a little episodic and slow to take off and slow to end that kind of made sense and kind of didn't. There are engaging sequences though- there is potential here.
