From Publishers WeeklyStarred . Ringo (Choosers of the Slain) surpasses himself in his latest Kildar novel, an SF-tinged action yarn that will appeal to those interested in the psychology of leadership. Mike Harmon, the former SEAL operator who through the vicissitudes of fortune finds himself warlord to a Caucasus tribe, is pressured by those he trusts into mounting a rescue mission deep inside Chechen territory. Their target? A Russian scientist being forced to assist in the transfer of WMD by terrorists who hold his daughter captive. As it becomes apparent that Mike's supposed allies have withheld vital intelligence from him, his responsibilities become almost unbearable and force him into recognizing some unpalatable truths about himself. The Keldara, living fossils of a pagan warrior past, throw themselves into battle with a fervor that's truly religious. The final desperate fight could have been clichd, but it attains a terrible beauty not unlike that of the Norse Eddas. (Dec.) Copyright Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. "Explosive... fans of strong military science fiction will appreciate the lively narrative and flavourful characters." - Publishers' Weekly."About the AuthorJohn Ringo had visited 23 countries and attended 14 schools by the time he graduated high school. This left him with a wonderful appreciation of the oneness of humanity and a permanent aversion to foreign food. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, he brings first-hand knowledge of military operations to his fiction. In addition to his nationally best-selling techno-thriller novels about Mike Harmon, his novels for Baen include the novels in the New York Times best-selling Posleen War series (A Hymn Before Battle, Gust Front, When the Devil Dances, and Hells Faire), the Council War series (There Will be Dragons, Emerald Sea, Against the Tide, and East of the Sun, West of the Moon), the novel Into the Looking Glass, four collaborations with fellow New York Times bestselling author David Weber (March Upcountry, March to the Sea, March to the Stars and We Few) and four collaborative spinoffs from the Posleen series: Hero (with Michael Z. Williamson), Watch on the Rhine and Yellow Eyes (both with Tom Kratman), and the New York Times best seller Callys War (with Julie Cochrane). can you use bookbub on kindle Unto the Breach (Paladin of Shadows, Book 4)

Recommended.By Andy McKinneyThis penultimate volume in the Paladin of Shadows series has Mike Harmon aka Ghost aka Mike Jenkins aka Kildar back in action with his retainers, the fierce mountain warriors, the Tigers of the Mountains, the Kildara. The Kildar, this is a title like Baron not a name, has embarked on several missions of great sensitivity and danger on behalf of the President of the USA. Each of them resulted in many dead bad guys and an increasingly fat bank account for the Kildar. This episode involves a Russian bio-weapons lab where small pox has been improperly jiggled with to make it even more deadly. Jihadis have gotten their mitts on the deadly stuff and hidden it away in the mountains of the country of Georgia. Georgia happens to be the home of the Kildara. Ringo has as his best suit the depth of character that he presents to his readers. And he has a lot of them. When we lose one of them we feel it. When one of his characters escape from some predicament, we feel it. But his calling card is military action. Of this he is the current master, as far as I am concerned. In this volume his concluding battle takes up about 100 pages of non-stop action. And his technical accuracy is unsurpassed. We get our money's worth with Ringo too. Into the Breach is fully 568 pages long in the edition that I reviewed. The prolific Ringo has more than two dozen books in print. I for one want him to write more, write faster, give us readers more enjoyment.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
