Wayne Stinnett is a great writer and this book was below his abilities. I felt he spent far too much of the book with the two druggies at the beginning and, like another reviewer, felt like the "Not L-8" was simply dropped by the wayside. None the less, like all Stinnett's Jesse McDermitt books, the action picked up and turned into a good overall read. I remain a staunch Stinnett-McDermitt fan and await the next in the series.11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Very good, but.....By J. BosworthI agree with some of the other "less then 5 star" reviews. The book seemed to start off kind of slow, with a lot of virtual paper wasted on info that only a boat lover (a rich boat lover) would really find interesting. I expected the new boat to play a role in the entire book, but it just kind of disappeared after the first few chapters.Next there was the mystical guy who could disable people with his mind (so to speak). And then came the bad guy who became a good guy at the drop of a hat.But this is fiction, so you've got to bend a bit.The final issue, however, was the way the book ended. It's like someone cut out what should have been another 3 or 4 chapters, and just did a very rushed wrap-up.All in all, it WAS a good read and I'm already looking forward to Mr. Stinnett's next one in the series, but I hope he takes a bit more time with it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ANOTHER STELLAR JESSE ADVENTUREBy BigDrumDaddyAUthor Wayne Stinnett has created one of the most enduring characters in modern day fiction in Jesse McDermitt. And you needn't be familiar with the south Florida coastal waters (as I'm not) nor be a former Recon Marine Sniper (which I am). I believe you need only crave enjoyable, often fast paced, dramatic fiction with a plot twist or two. And if Jesse himself weren't enough, his 'family' of friends, acquaintances, well wishers hangers on are a diverse, disparate bunch in of themselves. In this seventh edition of the Jesse McDermitt Novels, we find a lonely, bored, 'invisible' young man with the opportunity to take advantage of a drug dealing friend in order to finance a new life for himself. And, of course, that new life just happens to be nearly square in Jesse's lap. All through the efforts of a weaselly little man who takes advantage of the young man, and the powerful drug kingpin who the young man's drug dealing friend worked for. This sets in motion a series of events, many unforeseen, which shatters Jesse's 'Island Time' mindset, and involves the CCC various other drug enforcement agencies. If only for show. Stinnett's FALLEN series has quickly become my favorite among the many books I consume. And I consume a great many of them. But with the Jesse McDermitt series, I savor each every page. For the rich characterizations, detailed descriptions of south Florida's waters inhabitants, and the growing family surrounding Jesse himself. I honestly can't imagine anyone NOT liking these books. Read just one. One. Any one. And you'll be hooked for life. Good fiction like this is hard to come by of late. And it doesn't get any better than this.
