RicucciI admit I'm a fan of Jack Higgins (a pen-name for UK author Harry Patterson), and I've read about 12 of his books. But The Bormann Testament (PAUL CHAVASSE) made me think maybe I've read too many of them. You know how, when you read a lot of books by one author, you can start to predict how they're going to play out and who the surprise bad-guy is (the one who's supposed to be a good guy)? That's the case here. The premise is promising -- Martin Bormann is still alive and in hiding, 15+ years after WW2 ended, and he's written a tell-all book revealing persons in high places who always claimed they did not support Hitler and had nothing to do with the Nazis -- but in reality they're still around, closet Nazis trying for a comeback. And the chase is on for Bormann and the manuscript.Unfortunately, in this book I had it all figured out WAY too early (about one-third into the story). I read the whole book to see if I was right about certain plot developments, and yes, it's basically the same story as several of Higgins' other Nazi-themed books with just some of the names details changed (and many of them the same).Of course, this is no guarantee I won't pick up another Higgins book. But maybe I'll move on from the WW2 Nazi era.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A short engaging readBy T. WeaverFirst, I'm a Jack Higgins fan. His writing is always engaging, and the plots don't depend on miraculous intervention. This offering, like many others, is a single mission plot without a lot of extraneous activity. My only real problem is that the book is short - less than a two hour read. I enjoyed the characters, the plot and the twists. And, I plan on reading the next in the series.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Jack Higgins always weaves a great tale, and this is a particularly good one.By Philip MichaelsJack Higgins always weaves a great tale, and this is a particularly good one. As a big fan of WWII stories, especially ones concerning the Third Reich, I found this story about Martin Bormann, Hitler's right hand man, to be particularly enthralling. Bormann holds a special place in the minds of WWII history buffs and conspiracy theorists because it's unclear as to what happened to him. Did he die as Berlin fell, or did he escape to South America? In either case, it is clear that he knew Hitler's inner thoughts and kept Hitler's secrets. In this novel, some of those secrets, such as where some Nazi leaders were living, are about to be exposed, unless the testament finds the right hands.
