From BooklistIt could be the switch in coauthors (veteran mystery writer Perry takes over for Grant Blackwood), or the rather nifty story (an excavation of a historical site leads to a modern-day quest to find the lost treasure of Attila the Hun), but either way the fourth Fargo adventure is the best of the series so far. Danger abounds, of course, but its the characters who sell the story. Sam and Remi Fargo, the husband-and-wife treasure hunters and globe-trotting adventurers, are likable and gutsy, not merely Indiana Jonesstyle stereotypes. The story moves at a brisk clip, leaping from location to location, with an assortment of colorful villains (including one extremely unpleasant fella who thinks hes descended from Attila) and plenty of verbal interplay between the two leads. Cussler seems to have entered the period in his lengthy career where he relies heavily on his collaboratorsand Perry is an A-listerbut some very good books have been appearing with his name on them, and this is one his fans wont want to miss. --David Pitt Another adventure of nonstop, nerve-wracking suspense.Library JournalCussler fans can expect more than a few hours of page-turning action.Kirkus s About the AuthorClive Cussler is the author of more than fifty previous books in five bestselling series, including Dirk Pitt, NUMA Files, Oregon Files, Isaac Bell, and Fargo. New co-author, serious slide in quality.By alonI couldn't figure out what the hell had happened between books three and four until I saw a different "co-author" had been attached to this one. The main issue, other than the poor writing, was the lack of consistency. The characters have morphed under this author into something other than what was intended. I had to re-read the first dialogue by Selma when she calls Sam and Remi by their first names in a very causal manner, something she never did previously. In fact, it was pointed out multiple times in the narration and was even a joke with the main protagonists. From there I began noticing other problems and really had to slog through this one to get to the underwhelming conclusion. Fargo novels are always full of unlikely coincidences but a lot of the "eureka" moments in this book were just absurd. The fact the cab driver they just happen to bump into can get them everything from automatic weapons, heavy excavation equipment, and personnel for a tactical assault wasn't even the most ludicrous among them. There were bizarre metaphors throughout the book like describing a beautiful, peaceful sunrise as the "yolk of a fried egg." (Seriously, that's in there.) With a name like Cussler's attached to it I'm quite disappointed that the editors didn't catch all these basic errors. Even for a Cussler fan and as someone who was already reading the series this eBook is NOT worth the $10 the publisher is charging. Not even close.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What a wild ride around the world..By Joan T PyronI have read most of the "The Cargos" novels and I can honestly say that there were more twists and turns in this one novel. Every time Clive Cussler puts out a new series of books, they get more and more action, adventure and thrills. This was a great Fargo novel. They get better as the series grows. "A REAL PAGE TURNER. once you start any one of Clive Cussler's series of action, adventure and thriller novels has it's special characterizing of the people in each series. The Fargo's novels never fail to give you more action, interesting plots, travel locations and ways of escaping impossible situations. I'm ready for newest novel to come out. Never a dull moment.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good bookBy CocoA good Cussler book, but not quite as good as the Dirk Pitt books. I did like the characters prefer the Fargo adventures to the Oregon files. Well written. love the way Cussler wrote himself into the book which is a trademark of his.
