Lately getting into some novels has been hard but not this one. Once I started reading, I was caught and kept reading. I liked the characters and the way things flowed in the story. It was fun to get to know the characters in this first story. After dying for several minutes, Harper now has to learn to deal with that shadowy place between life and whereever it is souls end up at. Ghosts, vampires, cursed furniture, cursed deaths and how to navigate the paranormal. I found this fast paced. I really love how Kat writes Harper. I hold her up to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake. These characters both are/have learned to deal with that other than normal world around them. I have already got the next book in the Greywalker series and will soon finish it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An original and fascinating readBy L. A. KaneGreywalker is a fantastic concept and a very solid first book. When private investigator Harper Blaine is assaulted savagely enough to die for a few minutes before being resuscitated at the hospital she develops the rare ability to break through the barrier between the world of the living and the dead. As with any good urban fantasy this newfound talent thrusts her into the hidden realm of ghosts, vampires, witches, and necromancers that overlaps our own. It's a very creative spin on the subject, something I have not seen in the genre that's cram-packed with vampires, werewolves, and other overwritten beasties. Without giving anything in the story away, the necromantic object and it's affect on magic in the area is a very nice touch. I truly like it a lot.The author has crafted a very believable world with magic built upon a solid metaphysical foundation. The book is a quick, easy, and very enjoyable read. There is one plot point that strikes me as a bit odd, however. While the heroine has significant challenges dealing with her newfound abilities and embracing the "grey," she has no qualms about befriending a witch or misgivings about discovering that one of her new clients is a vampire. It seems to me that a bit of angst at such things might have been more fitting for the character, yet it by no means ruins the story. Let's face it, for some folks it's easier to accept strange happenings when they impact someone other than themselves. The bottom line is that Richardson has crafted a rich, interesting story filled with appealing characters that truly connect with the reader. This is no run of the mill urban fantasy. In fact, I liked Greywalker so much that I bought the rest of the series before I even finished reading it. It's a dark fantasy, but a fascinating one. I am excited to reading more of her work.Lawrence KaneAuthor of Blinded by the Night, among other titles1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. But the ideas for the characters and the fresh take on this kind of genre was refreshing. Writing was clear and easy to follow and overall was worth the time to read. I would recommend the book.
