(and I do not mean that in a good way)By Barry HampeI have been a fan of Stuart Woods for close to 20 years, so I know he sometimes misses the mark. This is a book desperately in need of another draft. From the opening chapter to the closing epilogue White Cargo is carelessly written. I found I didn't care for the protagonist any more than he seemed to care for his murdered wife. What do we know about her? She was on his boat. He wanted to make an unscheduled stop in Colombia. She didn't want him to. He did it anyway. She was killed. And that's about it. Sure, he wants her killer caught. And when he gets an inkling his daughter he thought was murdered also might still be alive, he saddles up like Don Quixote and sets out to rescue her. He is a bumbling amateur at it, but you have to step back from the onrushing plot to realize that. Truth is, enough mistakes are made in his first couple of days in Colombia, that he never should have lived to see a third day.The plan for this novel seems to be let's put Cat Catledge in situation after situation where he is in over his head, make the only way out of the situation 100:1 against, and let him be lucky.Cat Catledge is no Stone Barrington. What a fantastic book!By Helen GoforthI liked this book because it captured my attention and never let go of it. My daughter would enjoy this book as well I have highly recommended it to her. I chose this book because it sounded interesting when I read about it in my search for a good book.
