About the AuthorAfter spending too many years as an industrial engineer, Shannon learned to write from her husband, bestselling author Jim Butcher. She learned writing craft in order to help him with his stories, but found the idea of writing her own too compelling to resist. She lives in Missouri with her husband and son, where conversations at the dinner table are more often about things someone made up than about anything thats actually happened. I couldn't wait for Logan's book, the first starring a Sanguinar. I was so incredibly disappointed on reading it. This book could have been so good, and it just wasn't. It wasn't even the couple that ruined it or their story. It was more the fact that the author and hence the reader was prevented from giving my attention to their story. The main couple got less than half of the pages devoted to their story. I have seen/read this before in other longer series where each book features a couple. By several books into it, the strands of stories are so many that it takes away from the main featured couple just too much unless the author is very very careful. Reading this book was like trying to read 4 or 5 unrelated books at the same time, reading a few pages from each at a time and then ripped loose to read a few pages from the next and then the next. Every paragraph at times the story would shift to another unrelated person or aspect of the story that didn't relate to Logan and Hope. This could have been a 5-star read had the author stuck much more to Hope and Logan and left the other stuff for other books. There was little reason for so many unrelated plot pieces and details. We could have waited to another book to hear about Sybil, or Jackie/Iain, or the Slayers or any number of other things. These people/situations did not even intersect the Hope/Logan plot. I was hugely disappointed in this one. I already own the next and will read it, but I hope it does not continue in this way.My summary: VERY brief story of Logan/Hope that could have been wonderful but wasn't and a whole heck of a lot of catchup on nearly every other person ever introduced and a handful of new characters as well. Too scattered, needed focus.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Logan's storyBy MrsMOI was happy to finally get more background on Logan. He's been a character in the past books, but in this one, we get his story! I think this was a great way to find more out about the Sanguinar, and we finally get more history about their race.I've been pleasantly surprised by Butcher's series, and this one is another good addition to the Sentinel Wars. I'm anxiously awaiting the next in the series.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
