BakerI find most of the other reviews of this book spot on even if the accompanying ratings are a little harsh. The Remaining: Allegiance is definitely the weakest in this series. Spasms of action throughout the book feel natural within the narrative but unoriginal in the larger picture. The characters are physically spread out in this book to start, maybe a little too thin. While that might result in covering more ground to speed up the plot and/or more attention on character development, it feels like neither. Each group seems to deal with issues addressed in the previous books and each individual character in their own way, taking up a lot of pages for each and yet feeling like less time for everyone. As the details of what was inevitable, as set up by the previous books -- unfold it seems somewhat methodical and redundant across each set of characters. While that time is spent on deepening character development, each dealing with their own piece of the situation doesn't go as far as it has before in dealing with the larger conflict (with the exception of LaRouche in this book).Of course, for those invested in the series, don't skip over this one. I'm personally not deterred from reading the next. The writing is not as poor nor the book as much as disappointment as other reviews make it out to be by the number of stars. Not being up to snuff with previous works does not make it bad and the negativity has as much to do with raised expectations as this installment not quite hitting the mark. Also like other reviewers, I'm also inclined to blame the publisher over the writer, and you can't fault Molles for reaping the benefits of success. I hope and trust the series finale is worth the longer walk this one took us on to get us there.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Marginal, longwinded and a disappointmentBy Kindle CustomerUnfortunately, I have to agree with many of the reviewers. This book does not live up to the high expectations I have for the series. Do not get me wrong, I LOVED the first books and I introduced them to several friends of mine. I did not read the two novellas largely because of the reviews. When I saw book five was published I went ahead and bought it at an inflated price because I felt I had gotten the first books at such a great cost that I could not begrudged the author trying to cash in a little. I would to continue to feel that way if this was another 4 or 5 start book, but it isnt.I found myself skipping paragraph after paragraph of unnecessary exposition, back story or inner-monologue. When there was action, it was well worth the wait, but the time between the meat of the story seemed too widen as the book progressed. Other comments about story progression are dead-on. At this pace you get the feeling that there are another 10 installments planned and that would be painful to suffer through especially since book six is already planned for this year you get the feeling that there is more of the same coming. I would love to see how it turns out for Lee and his comrades, but unless I see some dramatic changes in reviews for Book 6, Molles has lost a reader.Too bad. I just finished Book four in the Mountain Man series by Keith C Blackmore (which was as good as the first three books and turned out to be a much better series than The Remaining) and I need another good series to start up in this genre.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Book five in the series and I can't wait until the next one comes out!! Great reading!By J. StrohWell, this sucks. I was so into the book and then it ended!! There is one more book in the series and now I have to wait until July for it to come out!But the book is awesome!! Great writing by D|.J. Molles as usual and he keeps things moving right along. He weaves a lot of the story lines from his other Remaining books into one great big ending in Allegiance but you have to wait until the next book comes out to see where it goes. Lots of action, suspense and cringe worthy reading in Allegiance and it keeps you turning the pages. Mr. Molles does an excellent job of describing the undead and you can easily envision it in your mind. Great gross creepy stuff!Don't miss this one and if you have not read the other book in the series, better get reading. You wont' be disappointed.
