Not a Single Dull MomentBy Jim DavisHaving read and enjoyed the first book in this series, I eagerly awaited the release of the next book and immediately purchased a copy upon its release. This second story in the series did not disappoint. I really like, Em Ridge, the main character. Em Ridge is a boat captain who comes across as authentic and believable. This mystery has plenty of twists and turns to delight even the most discerning mystery lover. The story begins in the Bermuda Triangle. After an abandoned sailboat is found, a mystery compounds upon another mystery, which begins to unfold about Em's uncle, a man Em adored, but apparently did not know as well as she previously thought in her younger years. When Em sets out to find out what happened to her missing uncle, she learns he and a female friend of Em's had a bit of a history neither had mentioned to her previously. What else was he hiding, a murder, stolen money? This story is fast paced and held my attention from the first paragraph until the last sentence. I read the story in one day, basically, because I could not put it down for long.I loved both books in this series, but The Bitter End was my favorite of the two stories. Probably because I felt like I already knew the main character from reading the first book. I am looking forward to reading more stories about this highly skilled and intelligent female boat captain, who is a survivor in the most dire circumstances.I highly recommend The Bitter End and now eagerly look forward to the third book in this series. An excellent writing style and compelling stories make for enjoyable reads. This author has moved up to the top tier level of my favorite authors.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A good read.By Kindle CustomerThe story starts in the Bermuda Triangle: an abandoned sailboat, a perfectly set table for two complete with filled wine glasses, pots on stove with food ready to serve, all waiting for someone to sit down and eat, drink and be merry. Everything in the boat is sanitary clean, all clothing fold and pressed, as if it just came from a Chinese Laundry, aligned perfectly as if with a straight edge. Everything looks perfect, suggesting two very neat and meticulous people about to sit down for a meal. Only to subsequently suddenly fall victims to abductors; aliens or humans? All in all creating a perfect abduction scenario for the TV cameras, except for three things: identifying name and numbers have been scraped off the boats hull, missing log books, a large tear in the mainsail rendering it useless, except the tear is not blown out by wind and storm, but cut with a knife. But the protagonist, a widow and yacht delivery captain, recognizes the yacht, she had been on it many times over the years.Add to all that, the profession captain protagonist finds herself at that very spot as the Captain for a ship attempting to solve the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, hired by an expository TV program and everything captured on camera. There is no romance, other than past; no sex, other than brief references to past lovers, as such. It ends with a subtle hint of the possibility of future romance for the widow-captain with one of the players in the story. I like romances, therefore because the tenuous implied future needed more sustenance, in the main body of the story with more positive implications for the future.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. a good read, with plenty of action and plotBy Benedict P. MercadanteAnother off shore mystery...Linda Hall has come into her own with the Em Ridge character, mostly in control of her immediate environment, but always checking the horizon...another twisting mystery...a good read, with plenty of action and plot. I really enjoy Linda Hall's story telling, and detail...well done!
