LaurentInteresting concept, based on a possibility that one of Christ's disciples wrote a letter from prison claiming the Christ didn't die on a cross, but survived for three days and then committed suicide. And that this letter had been preserved and hidden for nearly three millennia by a small sect of monks who knew that its revelation would destroy two of the major tenets of the Christian faith: the martyrdom of Christ, and its most powerful symbol, the cross. Ludlum turned this into a very long and complicated book, based on a WWII intrigue and complete with its own modern day Cain and Abel story near the end.I thought The Gemini Contenders was a good read, but ultimately disappointing because, obviously, the ancient letter never sees the light of day. Therefore, the basic tension of the novel - a revelation that could destroy the foundations of Christianity - turns to dust.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
